THE COMOX VALLEY

The Comox Valley is one of the most beautiful places on Vancouver Island. Positioned on the East Coast of Vancouver Island the Comox Valley is the recreation capital of Canada.

Nestled between the Beaufort Mountains and the Strait of Georgia on the eastern coast of Vancouver Island, the Comox Valley is a collection of rolling mountains, delicate alpine meadows, rushing rivers, pristine lakes, lush forests, fertile farms, incredible beaches and more than 40 green parks.

This unique geography plus a year round temperate climate, creates an exceptional location for an incredible range of year-round outdoor recreation activities.

In the Comox Valley it really is possible to enjoy the best of all seasons - you can be knee-deep in a winter wonderland, then within half an hour be dusting the snow off your boots on a lush green golf course, or paddling a kayak through sparkling blue waters.

Awarded the prestigious national distinction of Cultural Capital of Canada for 2007, the Comox Valley is recognized for their ongoing commitment to arts and culture.

The Comox Valley is made up of the distinctive and colourful communities of Courtenay, Comox and Cumberland and the surrounding Regional District rural areas. These communities are all quickly traveled between and each have a special charm that lends itself to the overall magic that is the Comox Valley.

With many shared public amenities including sports and recreation centres, theatres, galleries, playing fields, parks and schools, the Comox Valley is a welcoming and friendly place to live and visit.

Being a 'Four Season's Destination' the Comox Valley offers its inhabitants the opportunity to be active year round. With our mild climate you can golf, hike, sail, and enjoy the many beaches just about any time you wish. Mount Washington, only 30 minutes away by paved road, offers hiking and climbing in the summer and top notch skiing in the winter.

The Valley has a population of over 56,000 people, a mild maritime climate, and offers a wide variety of retail shops and services. It is also noted for a diverse variety of cultural activities such as visual and performing arts and quality crafts all anchored by the world famous Filberg Festival and Courtenay Youth Music Camps.

The Comox Valley offers a truly unique lifestyle with a location blessed by warm climate, clean environment, and spectacular sights...a place where "Quality Of Life Reigns."

The mild, Mediterranean like weather creates an optimum atmosphere for year-round activities. Recreation does not cease due to the changing weather patterns, it simply moves to other venues.

The City of Courtenay (20,000) is the urban and cultural hub of the Comox Valley. Located along the Courtenay River in the heart of some of the Island's most beautiful farming land, Courtenay is a bustling metropolis with galleries, theatres, shops and restaurants.

Downtown Courtenay is considered one of the most vibrant and charming downtowns on Vancouver Island. In addition to unique shops, services and eateries, Courtenay is also home to an incredible cultural district that includes the Sid Williams Civic Theatre, Comox Valley Art Gallery and the Courtenay and District Museum and Paleontology Centre.

The Town of Comox has recently undergone a downtown revitalization project enhancing the historic flavour of the seaside community. Fresh seafood sales right off the boat add to the charm of this visitor friendly community. Comox is also home to great seaside shops and pubs, art galleries, two golf courses, the Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park and Canadian Forces base, 19 Wing Comox.
